The Ionian islands lie down the west coast of Greece.  Once known as the 'Eftanisos' or 'Seven Islands', they are made up of some of Greece's best known islands and some you might never have heard of.  From north to south, they are Corfu , Paxos , Lefkas or Lefkada , Ithaca , Kefalonia or Cephalonia , Zakynthos or Zante and Kythira.

This website has been brought to you by Friends of the Ionian.  FoI was set up as part of the European Year of Tourism in 1990 with the aim of redirecting tourism development in Greece's Ionian Islands along less destructive lines. FoI works on the islands of Corfu , Paxos , Lefkas , Ithaca , Kefalonia , Zakynthos or Zante and Kythira.  FoI is a not-for profit organisation run by volunteers.

The Friends do not derive profits from tourism and yet they make a significant contribution towards promoting and protecting the culture and environment of the region.
